Get to know us
In health and fitness spaces, we train our muscles and do our best to fuel our bodies properly, but we often forget how our bodies and brains connect to manage our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. We are even socialized to accept a bit of pain, deal with adversity, and fight through obstacles to become better at our skill.
But, there is missing component - the importance of a healthy mind. The mind, body, and environment do not act independently. Learning how to connect our mind to our body or “training our mental and emotional physique” can better equip us to navigate day-to-day challenges.
At MindFit LLC, we'll provide you with evidence-based mindset training, mental health therapy, and educational resources to aid you in your journey through sport, fitness, and life. Together, we will build strong minds, one rep at a time.

Mel Fierstine
Hello! I am glad you are here. My name is Mel Fierstine, MSW, LICSW, founder of MindFit LLC. I've been a social work practitioner for the last 23 years with areas of expertise in mental health, sports social work, interpersonal violence prevention education, gender inclusivity, equity, and macro social work practice. I'm also an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Go Dragons!
I love being an active community member. I was the head coach of the Moorhead High Varsity Dance Team for 11 years, own a national dance fitness business, am a CrossFit athlete, long-distance runner, and an impassioned social justice advocate. You'll likely see me waving to you on the streets of Moorhead while either walking, running, or hiking with my partner, Duane or talking all things dance with our daughter, Emmie.
